Case Fit Checker

Enter a cigar’s length and ring gauge and a case’s maximum length and diameter. The checker converts ring gauge to millimeters and tells you whether the cigar sits inside both stated limits.

Where to find the numbers

Cigar length is printed on the box or the maker’s site, usually in inches; multiply by 25.4 for millimeters. Ring gauge is the cigar’s diameter in 64ths of an inch. Case maximum length is the “maximum cigar length”, “slot length”, or “compatible length” in a product’s specification table; if only an exterior length is published, subtract about 10–15 mm for the shell and lining. Case maximum diameter is the “opening”, “channel width”, “slot width”, or “maximum diameter” figure.

How the result is calculated

The checker converts ring gauge to diameter (ring gauge × 25.4 ÷ 64) and compares it with the case diameter, then compares cigar length with case length. Both comparisons must pass. The result is a likely fit, not a guarantee: makers hand-measure their products, lining takes up space, and a cigar that exactly equals a limit will usually be tight.

Reading a “likely fit”

A comfortable fit leaves at least 1 mm of clearance on diameter and 5 mm on length. If the cigar is within 1 mm of the diameter limit or within 5 mm of the length limit, treat the result as borderline: it will probably go in, but it may be difficult to remove without pinching the wrapper, and box-pressed cigars may not fit at all.

Reading a “not a confirmed fit”

If the cigar exceeds either limit, choose a case with a larger opening or longer channels rather than forcing it. A cigar pressed into a channel that is too narrow can crack the wrapper, and one that is too long prevents the case from closing properly, which defeats the purpose of a rigid shell.

When a case has no published limits

Some listings only state exterior dimensions. Use the exterior length minus 10–15 mm as a conservative maximum, and email us with the cigar size you carry; we can confirm interior figures with the maker for most products.
