TL;DR — Before buying, confirm fit, capacity, structure, closure, materials, included accessories, and return conditions. A clear checklist prevents most case-selection mistakes.

Fit
Record the largest cigar length and ring gauge you expect to carry. Convert ring gauge to millimeters (× 25.4 ÷ 64) and compare both numbers with the case’s usable length and opening diameter, leaving 5 mm and 1 mm of tolerance respectively. If the listing gives only exterior dimensions, subtract 10–15 mm from the length and ask for the opening figure.
This single step prevents most returns. A case that fits the cigars you actually smoke is a good case; one that does not is a drawer ornament.
Carrying pattern
Choose the normal capacity plus one, not the largest imaginable trip. Decide whether the case needs to fit a pocket (under 30 mm thick), a personal item, or checked luggage, and whether it will be emptied every evening or hold cigars for days. Those answers point to a slide case, a zippered case, or a tray case before you look at a single photograph.
If two situations recur, for example a daily single cigar and a monthly weekend away, buy two cases. A compact sleeve and a five-cigar zippered case together cost less than a compromise you do not use.
Construction
Compare rigid channels, soft pouches, cedar trays, zippers, slides, magnets, and clasps according to the main risk: crushing, movement, dryness, or bulk. Crushing wants a rigid shell; movement wants individual channels or tubes; dryness wants an enclosed cedar-lined case with a humidity pack; bulk wants a slim slide case. No single case is best at all four.
Look at hardware. Metal hinges and clasps outlast plastic; stitched edges outlast glued ones; a zipper with metal teeth outlasts a coil zipper.
Contents and support
Verify every included item and review the return window before ordering. Keep the order confirmation for variations that bundle cutters or humidity packs, because the variation name is the record of what should arrive. Check that the case can be returned unused within 30 days and that return shipping conditions are acceptable.
Finally, read the care notes. A lacquered case that scratches easily or a crazy horse leather that scuffs by design is only a problem if you did not expect it.

Frequently asked questions
What is the single most important check?
Diameter. Length problems are visible in a photograph; a channel 1 mm too narrow is not.
How do I know the included items?
Read the ‘What’s included’ section and the variation name. Photographs are styled with props.
Can I return a case that does not fit?
Yes, unused and in its packaging, within 30 days of delivery. Return shipping is paid by the buyer unless the item was wrong or damaged.
Should I buy the case before the cigars?
Buy the case for the cigars you already smoke. Buying cigars to suit a case is the wrong way round.
