TL;DR — Product dimensions describe different things: exterior size tells you how the case packs, while channel width, opening diameter, and usable length determine cigar fit.

Exterior dimensions
Length × width × thickness describes the closed case. These numbers help with pocket, bag, and luggage planning but do not prove cigar fit. A 180 mm long case does not hold a 180 mm cigar; the shell, the lid overlap, and the lining each take a few millimeters. As a conservative rule, subtract 10–15 mm from the exterior length when no interior figure is published.
Thickness is the number that decides whether a case is a pocket case. Anything under about 30 mm rides in a jacket; anything over 35 mm is a bag item.
Usable length
Interior tray length, maximum cigar length, slot length, or compatible length is the relevant number for fit. In the catalog, the solid cedar case publishes a 190 mm slot length; the five-cigar zippered case a 165 mm maximum; the hard-case sets a 150–180 mm compatible range. Packaging length and exterior length are not substitutes.
A cigar longer than the usable length either stops the case closing or gets its foot crushed against the end wall. Neither is acceptable.
Diameter and channel width
A round opening diameter maps most directly to cigar ring gauge: convert the ring gauge to millimeters and compare. A flat channel width may not represent usable round clearance if the channel is tapered or half-round, and a tube opening measured at the mouth may narrow inside. Where a maker states ‘maximum diameter’ or ‘fits up to 56 ring gauge’, use that; where only a width is stated, leave extra tolerance.
Examples from the catalog: 22 mm slots on the solid cedar case (about 54 ring gauge comfortable), 23.5 mm on the five-cigar zippered case (about 56), 25 mm tubes on the horse-motif case (about 60), 23 mm and 28 mm openings on the two- and three-cigar close-fit case.
Packaging dimensions
Retail-box dimensions matter for shipping and gifting. They should not be confused with product dimensions in a buying guide. Listings that show a ‘package size’ larger than the ‘product size’ are describing the gift box; the case inside is the smaller figure.
Weight is listed where the maker publishes it. Most leather slide cases are 100–130 g; a solid cedar case or a lacquered box is heavier.

Frequently asked questions
Why does a 180 mm case not hold a 180 mm cigar?
The shell, lid overlap, and lining use 10–15 mm. Only a stated interior or usable length tells you the real limit.
What if the listing says ‘not specified’?
The maker did not publish the figure. Use exterior length minus 10–15 mm as a conservative guide, or ask us to confirm.
Is channel width the same as opening diameter?
Not always. A tapered or half-round channel can be narrower inside than at the mouth. Leave extra tolerance when only a width is given.
Do package dimensions affect shipping cost?
No. Shipping is a flat rate per order regardless of box size.
